Staff Costing Tools
SiriusWeb
SiriusWeb is a HEFCE Good Management Practice funded project, undertaken by the Strategy and Planning Team at the University of Leeds to create an internet-based staff costs calculator.
SiriusWeb has been developed to assist anyone involved in costing a new appointment, research administration processes or the regular preparation of annual budgets within the HEI sector. It will for a chosen grade calculate the full employment costs including employer's pension and national insurance contributions, increments and pay awards for a specific contract duration.
In line with the joint initiative by the Office of Science and Technology (OST) and the Funding Councils to identify the full economic costs (fEC) of research projects and other related activities, SiriusWeb can also estimate staff costs on an hourly basis, so the amount of hours spent on a research project can be calculated, and the fEC then based upon the actual hours spent on the project.
Sirius 2
Sirius 2 is a staff costs estimating system which produces estimates of the total cost of employment for actual identifiable University of Leeds staff.
It will show such details as name, age, salary, FTE, and projected future costs of employment over a period of several years, taking into account the salary, FTE, charge percentage, inflation rate, national insurance, and superannuation.
It will produce reports showing committed costs and re-appointment costs for members of staff linked to individual :
- Cost centres
- Work breakdown schedules
- Internal orders
- Profit centre nodes
It will also produce these reports for the University as a whole.
The data which Sirius 2 uses comes directly from SAP and is updated once a week.
Sirius 2 complements the SiriusWeb staff costs calculator. Both perform similar functions though it is important to remember that Sirius 2 uses real staff details to produce its estimated costs whereas SiriusWeb just costs for salary points within a scale.
